Gabby Petito’s parents reportedly used an empty urn during her memorial services.
FOX 13 reported that at the time of the services, the FBI had not yet released Gabby’s remains or given a timeline on when they would be able to do so.
Memorial services were held at the Moloney Funeral Home near Gabby’s hometown of Blue Point, NY on September 26th.
Petito’s father, Joseph Petito, and stepfather, Jim Schmidt, both spoke during the memorial service.
“I want you to take a look at these pictures, and I want you to be inspired by Gabby,” Petito told mourners. “If there’s a trip you guys want to take, take it. Now. Do it now while you have the time. If there is a relationship that you’re in that might not be the best thing for you, leave it. Now.”
On Tuesday, Fox News reported that their reporters contacted Rick Stafford, a spokesperson for the Petito family, to see if Gabby’s remains had been released to the family. At the time of publication, Stafford had not responded. The FBI also declined to comment.
