A sex offender with terrifying face tattoos allegedly attempted to rape a woman who was sleeping next to her boyfriend, The Smoking Gun reports.
Authorities allege that the man, 46-year-old Michael Campbell of Missouri, pulled a woman’s pants and underwear down while her boyfriend was sleeping alongside her, according to court documents obtained by the website.
Campbell allegedly then began grinding his body against the woman, the criminal complaint states, according to The Smoking Gun.
When the boyfriend awoke, he reportedly chased Campbell out of the residence. Campbell then fled the area on a bike.
Campbell told police that he wasn’t trying to rape the woman and alleged that she had come onto him in a bathroom, The Smoking Gun reports, citing court records. Campbell claimed that he “told her no” because “he had a curfew and needed to leave.”
Authorities in Greene County, Missouri, refer to Campbell as a “persistent sexual offender” in the criminal complaint, according to The Smoking Gun. Prosecutors have charged him with attempted rape in the first degree, which carries the possibility of a life sentence. He remains behind bars on a $100,000 bond.
Campbell, whom The Smoking Gun dubbed the “world’s scariest perp,” has an extensive criminal record.
Last year, he was convicted of violating an order of protection, assault and property damage, for which he served 6 months in jail, according to the New York Post.
In July 2018, prosecutors charged him with third-degree assault for punching another man repeatedly in the face after the man had used a toilet and didn’t flush it, Newsweek reports.
Campbell was convicted in 1995 of attempted sexual assault in the first degree for trying to rape a 14-year-old girl in the Denver area. He was 20 years old at the time.
Because he must register as a sex offender, Campbell is prohibited from places where children might be located, which is why he was arrested for being within 500 feet of a playground or public pool in 2011.
The tattoos on Campbell’s face include a bowtie and pitbull on his throat, Celtic knots on his temples and cheeks, and a pentagram on his forehead. The markings may be evidence of potential white supremacist beliefs, according to Newsweek.
