The brothers of Lori Vallow’s former husband Charles Vallow have spoken publicly for the first time, saying they believe his death may have been pre-meditated.
As 12 News reports, Bobby Vallow and his brother Gerry Vallow will appear on NBC’s “Dateline” on Friday night, and the network released some preview material of the upcoming episode.
Lori Vallow and Charles Vallow were separated when Lori’s brother Alex Cox fatally shot Charles at Lori’s home in Arizona, after an altercation in the home when Charles came to take their son JJ Vallow to school. As previously reported, authorities initially accepted Cox’s claim of self-defense, but court documents released after Cox’s death of natural causes and the murders of JJ Vallow and sister Tylee Ryan show that Cox waited over 45 minutes to report the shooting, after Vallow had left with the children.
Cox died in December 2019, and JJ and Tylee were found dead in the backyard of Vallow’s current husband Chad Daybell on June 2020. Investigators believe the children died on separate dates in September 2019. Vallow never reported them missing, and police did not discover the children were missing until they reported to Vallow’s home, then in Idaho, for a wellness check requested by JJ’s grandparents.
On the upcoming “Dateline” episode, Charles Vallow’s brothers say they don’t believe he was killed in self-defense.
“That was not self-defense,” Bobby Vallow said in response to a host’s question. “That was an ambush. There’s a lot of inconsistencies about that story.”
The brothers suggest that Charles Vallow was trying to keep his family together while Vallow had become increasingly involved in a so-called “doomsday” group led by Daybell.
“He said she had chosen a different path, but maybe he didn’t know the extent of the path she chose,” Bobby Vallow said, according to 12 News.
The episode will air Friday at 9 p.m. ET/8 p.m. CT.
