A South Carolina mother has been charged with murder in the shooting death of her 6-year-old son on Thanksgiving.
Police said that Mary Amelia Rosborough, 31, had returned from hunting at about 6 p.m. on Thursday, carrying her gun, when she shot the boy in the upper body, The Voice reported.
Investigators have not released any other details about the shooting. They said deputies from both Fairfield and Chester Counties were called to the scene and found that family members had already taken the boy to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Rosborough has been charged with murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime.
Fairfield County Sheriff Will Montgomery said the incident remains under investigation, and the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division is assisting.
According to court records, Rosborough is expected to make her first court appearance on January 12, 2022.
