Five people were killed and a police officer seriously injured after a multi-location shooting spree in Denver on Monday night.
According to KDVR, the suspect first killed two women and shot a man near First Avenue and Broadway. Another man was then fatally shot near 12th Avenue and Williams Street. After a third shooting in Denver that did not involve any fatalities, the suspect traveled to Lakewood where he continued his shooting spree, killing two more people at one location and a third at another.
Police attempted to apprehend the suspect after locating his car in Lakewood, and he reportedly fired at the officers. The suspect then entered one business, reportedly showing his gun, and moved to the Hyatt House where he allegedly shot a clerk, whose condition is not known. The suspect and officers continued to exchange gunfire, and one officer was injured. The injured officer fired again at the suspect, who was killed, but it is not clear at this time if the injured officer’s gun fired the fatal shot..
The suspect, the injured officer, and the victims have not yet been identified. Authorities have also not yet revealed a possible motive for the deadly shooting spree.
“This one individual was responsible for this very violent crime spree that took place this evening,” Denver Police Department Chief Paul Pazen told reporters.
A witness told the news station that they saw the suspect interacting with a female police officer. Their account indicates that she is the officer who was sh0t.
“We seen (sic) the guy: he was a tall man, blond hair, with a trench coat. She yelled at him to ‘put his gun down!’ She yelled, ‘put your gun down’ and he turned around and, like, pulled up the gun and shot her right in front of us, multiple times,” the witness said.
