Lexington, Kentucky, police are investigating an apparent murder-suicide involving a 10-year-old boy and a 22-year-old man.
Fayette County Coroner Gary Ginn confirmed that 10-year-old Landon Hayes and 22-year-old Tyrus Lathem died at the scene, WLEX reported.
Investigators said Lathem pulled the trigger.
Police responded to a call about shots fire around noon on Sunday northeast of downtown Lexington near Transylvania University.
It was unclear how the two were connected or what led to the shooting, said police Lt. Daniel Truex.
“I don’t believe that we’re ever going to know exactly what happened,” he said, noting that both people involved are dead.
Family members grieved outside the house where the bodies were found Sunday afternoon, and officials brought local chaplains and other resources to the scene to comfort them.
