3 Dead, Including Suspect & Good Samaritan, in Domestic Dispute; Child on Scene Unharmed

A shooting that began as a domestic dispute left three people dead and one wounded at an apartment complex in Brown Deer, a suburban village north of Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Brown Deer Police said that a 31-year-old man and a 23-year-old woman were killing in the shooting, and the suspect, a 26-year-old man, died of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

A 36-year-old man was shot in the leg, Police Chief Peter Nimmer said, and was probably already released from the hospital.

A child present on the scene was not harmed, he said, and is with family members.

Police have not released the identities of the victims or suspect pending completion of family notifications.

“It appears it started as a domestic dispute between two people” at the Park Plaza Apartments, Nimmer told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

The chief said two of the people involved knew each other. As for the other two, he said, “The best we can tell is people were trying to help out.”

Nimmer said police were called to the apartment complex just after 10 a.m. on Saturday on a report of shots fired and a possible victim in the parking lot. When they arrived on the scene, officers were fired on from the second floor of the building. A K-9 squad car was hit, but neither the dog nor any human officers were struck. Officers did not return fire, Nimmer said.

Once they gained entry to the apartment, they found the victims. The suspect was taken to a hospital and died there of his injuries.
