An 11-year-old Texas boy was killed on Thursday when he was shot multiple times outside his home, according to reports.
Harris County police responded to an apartment complex where Darius Dugas was reportedly killed as he got his coat from his mother’s car. Dugas’ mother told KTRK that the school notified them that it would be closed for the next couple of days due to inclement weather, so her son went to the car to retrieve his items.
“My son’s clothes, his nightclothes are still in the restroom, on the restroom counter,” the mother said. “He just wanted to get settled. That’s all he was doing.”
The family believes Dugas was shot before he could get his items from his mother’s vehicle. A neighbor overheard screaming before witnessing Dugas’ older brother performing CPR on the 11-year-old, who died at the hospital, according to KTRK.
A neighbor told the news outlet that they heard eight gunshots on Friday.
“All I know is, for a strong 10 seconds my baby feared for his life before he lost it,” Dugas’ mother said. “I was upstairs, along with his big brother and big sister, and there was nothing we could do about it.”
Harris County police said a teen was seen fleeing the area on foot after the deadly shooting. However, no arrests have been made.
