An Ohio mother is accused of killing her young daughter on Saturday, but police have released limited details about what happened or why, WOIO-TV reports.
Around 6:30 p.m., emergency crews responded to an apartment building in Bedford Heights, a suburb of Cleveland, and found a 5-year-old girl dead on the floor of a bathroom, according to the television station.
Investigators determined that the girl, identified as E’nijah Noell Holland, had been stabbed multiple times.
Police subsequently arrested the girl’s mother, 29-year-old Menokka Karr Nealy, who was at the apartment, according to WEWS-TV.
Authorities have not released many details about what happened, such as when the killing occurred or the circumstances leading up to it.
News of the death and the limited information surrounding it left many people in the community shaken.
“May this beautiful baby rest in peace,” one person wrote on Facebook.
“Horribly sad. Prayers for that sweet little angel,” another commenter wrote.

On average, 500 children are killed each year by their parents, according to research from Brown University that examined 15,000 arrests over the span of 32 years.
The study found that nearly 75 percent of the children who died at the hands of their parents were 6 years old or younger, while about one-third were infants. Boys were more likely to be killed than girls.
The research also revealed that fathers were about equally likely as mothers to kill an infant, but that men were more likely to murder children older than one year old.
Still, one expert told CNN that it is probable a mother kills a child every three days in the United States.
