A former Louisiana teacher pleaded guilty to “horrific crimes” against children and will testify against her now ex-husband — a former sheriff’s office SWAT team member — in his upcoming trial on child sex crime charges.
Cynthia Perkins, 36, and 44-year-Dennis Perkins were arrested in 2019 on charges of rape, sexual battery, video voyeurism, mingling harmful substances, obscenity, and producing child pornography, as CrimeOnline previously reported.
Cynthia Perkins was initially indicted in 78 counts but pleaded guilty to second-degree rape, production of child pornography, and conspiracy mingling of harmful substances and was sentenced to 41 years without parole. She also admitted to serving her students cupcakes made with her then-husband’s sperm.
“She not only waived any right to appeal, and attempt to avoid conviction, but she also spared the victims from reliving her horrific crimes during this particular trial,” Louisiana Attorney General Jeff Landry said on Monday when he announced the deal, according to WAFB. “Today’s conviction is in the best interest of our victims and justice.”
When she’s released from prison, Perkins will have to register as a sex offender. As part of the plea deal, she agreed that she helped her husband sexually assault a juvenile, helped him film a juvenile while bathing, and put his semen in cupcakes she gave to young children.
She also issued an apology to her victims, many of whom were as young as 9 and 10.
Perkins was a junior high school English teacher and resigned after police raided the couple’s home. Dennis Perkins was fired by the Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office, where he had been a special operations lieutenant.
