A South Carolina mother foiled an attempted kidnapping Friday afternoon when she confronted a man who had lured her 5-year-old daughter out of a convenience store and was about to run off with her.
Greenville County Sheriff’s Lt Ryan Flood said the incident took place at about 2:30 p.m. at a Spinx gas station, WYFF reported.
Investigators said that Zackery Luis Johnson, 43, lured the little girl out the front door when the mother had turned away from her for a moment. Johnson picked the girl up and left the store, but when the mother ran after them and confronted him, he put the child down and fled.
Deputies who responded to the call found him about a half mile from the store and took him into custody.
He’s been charged with kidnapping.
