A 16-year-old girl was shot to death in the early hours of Friday morning, and her mother’s boyfriend has been charged with the crime.
Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said deputies were dispatched to the scene when a young woman called 911 to report that Van Brisbon was holding her 16-year-old sister captive at gunpoint.
Harris County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Dennis Wolfford said deputies arrived at the scene and reported hearing a gunshot, screaming, and then another gunshot as they approached the front door, KTRK reported.
Brisbon came out the front door almost immediately after the gunshots were heard and was taken into custody. “You do what you have to do,” he told the deputies when he came outside
Deputies entered the home and found the girl dead with multiple gunshot wounds. Deputies said the victim and the suspect were the only people inside the home at the time; it’s not clear where the young woman who made the 911 call was, according to KRIV.
The station reported that the mother, the boyfriend, and the teen all lived at the house. According to KTRK, the mother was out of town but has since returned.
Gonzalez said Brisbon, 60, has not been cooperative, and investigators don’t have a motive. Brisbon has been charged with murder.
