Los Angeles police were called to a West Hills home Sunday morning for an assault with a deadly weapon and found three children dead.
Sergeant Bruce Borihanh said that the children ranged in age between 8 and 12, two boys and one girl, KNBC reported.
The children’s mother was taken to a hospital for a mental health evaluation and taken to police headquarters for and interview when she was released, he said.
Borihanh provided no further details about what happened but said investigators aren’t looking for other suspects.
Neighbor Stephen Hayes, who said he didn’t know the family well, said “they looked really nice … just normal people.”
Iman Bani, another neighbor, noted the day the tragedy took place.
“Especially on this Mother’s Day,” he said. ” … I just pray for the relief of the family, and the remaining family.”
The investigation is ongoing, police said.
