Louisiana police arrested a woman on Saturday, a day after suspected human remains were reportedly discovered under the floor of a home.
Amite City Police Department said in a Facebook post that the remains were found while executing a search warrant at an unoccupied home. Officers reportedly noticed that the floor had been replaced recently, leading them to remove the floorboards and make the grisly discovery.
Though the remains have not been formally identified, Joanna Phelps, 39, was arrested on charges of first-degree murder and failure to report the commission of certain felonies. She remains jailed.
Authorities have not disclosed what led to Phelps’ arrest or how she is connected to the ongoing investigation.
