A Pennsylvania man who shot and killed his ex-wife early Friday morning told investigators he thought he was shooting her boyfriend.
Jose Bencosme, 55, fired several shots point-blank into a vehicle outside Lineage Logistics at about 4 a.m., striking 44-year-old Maria Rodriguez, who was pronounced dead at the scene, according to WFMZ.
Rodriguez had just arrived for her morning shift at the warehouse.
Police said that surveillance video showed Bencosme, driving a rented car with its headlights off, stalking the victim’s SUV into the parking lot then stopping two spots down from the victim. The video shows Bencosme getting out of the car and firing four shots into the driver’s side window.
Police said Bencosme told them he thought Rodriguez’s boyfriend was driving the SUV and that he wanted to kill him.
Bencosme had threatened to kill the boyfriend and Rodriguez the day before, the boyfriend told investigators. Rodriguez had gotten a protection order against Bencosme that same day.
The suspect was arrested later on Friday and charged with murder and carrying a gun without a license.
