Toddler Shoots Himself When Left Alone in Car With Loaded Gun

A 3-year-old boy left alone in a vehicle behind a Pennsylvania Popeye’s apparently shot himself Saturday morning with a loaded gun that was also left behind.

Police from Caln Township and the city of Coatesville responded to the call shortly before noon when someone called about a possible fight in the parking lot, the Daily Local reported.

Police continued to get conflicting reports until moments before officers arrived on the scene when the boy’s father, who had returned to the vehicle, found his son and called for help.

Witnesses told police that the child was in the vehicle for an unknown amount of time. Another witness applied pressure to the wound until medical personnel arrive on scene. She said the boy was semi-conscious.

EMS took the boy to a local trauma center for treatment. WPXI reported that the child was shot in the leg and is expected to be OK.

Investigators have not publicly discussed the possibility of charges.
