A bride-to-be left her fiancé at the altar this week — or rather, a ticket counter at Heathrow airport, where they were preparing to fly to Rome for the wedding.
The groom-to-be told airport staff that he’d stepped away to go to the restroom, and she was gone when he returned, with all of their luggage and more than $6,000 cash he’d given her, The Sun reported.
Metropolitan Police told the Insider that officers had responded to the call at the airport.
“Officers were called to a check in area at Heathrow Airport on Thursday, 11 August, to a report that a quantity of cash and personal belongings had been stolen from a man,” a spokesperson said. “Officers attended and spoke to the man. Enquiries continue.”
The spokesperson said no arrests had been made.
A witness told The Sun that the man “was in bits — totally inconsolable.”
“Apparently, they’d only met very recently, and he’d fallen head-over-heels for her,” the witness said. “He’d proposed a day earlier and she’d accepted.”
The witness said that airport staff looked for the woman, but “it wasn’t even clear if she’d gone out of the airport or on to another country.”
“In the end, police were called. Even her name was in doubt by then.”
