Landlord’s Remains Found in Board House Freezer; Tenant Arrested

The remains of a Chicago landlord were found in a boarding house freezer on Tuesday, and one of her tenants was arrested.

The identities of the victim and suspect have not been released, but police said they began their investigation when another tenant reported not seeing the 55-year-old landlord for a time, WMAQ reported.

“The suspect … lived in the residence,” chief of detectives Brendan Deenihan said. ‘The other tenants were afraid. The suspect had recently called a tow truck and carried a heavy bag out to the tow truck.”

Investigators said the tow truck driver told them he took the suspect to Foster Beach, where officials said they found bloody rags and more remains inside a garbage can. The tow truck driver told them the suspect had pulled a knife on him.

Neighbors said the landlord was “very friendly” and always welcomed new neighbors.
