A 19-year-old Illinois man has been charged with stabbing his girlfriend 17 times Thursday night, leaving her hospitalized and on a ventilator.
Prosecutors said in court Saturday that Chance Young carried a 6-inch knife into the couple’s bedroom in Bloomington and told his girlfriend, “I’m going to need you to let me kill you.”
Young also reportedly suggested he was the messiah, and then began to stab the woman, WGLT reported.
The woman was taken to OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria, where she underwent surgery. Her injuries were said to be serious, and she remained on a ventilator on Saturday
Prosecutors said that Young has a history of mental health issues and drug use and was allegedly using drugs before the attack. Police found him covered in blood, and “he had to be tased” to be taken into custody.
He was charged Saturday with attempted murder and aggravated domestic battery and was ordered held on a $1 million bond. Arraignment was set for December 9.
