The stepmother of missing New Hampshire girl, Harmony Montgomery, is headed to prison after a perjury charge conviction Friday.
According to The Associated Press, Kayla Montgomery will serve 3 1/2 to seven years in prison, with one and a half years suspended for time served. She’s also agreed to cooperate with investigators in the case against Harmony’s father, Adam Montgomery, who’s been charged with Harmony’s murder.
Harmony hasn’t been seen since 2019; police said earlier this year that she’s likely deceased. The information came after an interview in June between Kayla Montgomery and detectives with the Manchester Police Department.
Kayla Montgomery reportedly told detectives Adam Montgomery killed the child in December 2019 by beating her, court documents filed in the Hillsborough County Superior Court stated.
Her perjury conviction comes after she lied to a grand jury about her whereabouts the day Harmony disappeared. She said she was working at a doughnut shop on November 30, 2019, the last time Harmony was seen, which was proven untrue.
In exchange for cooperating with investigators in the case against Adam Montgomery, Kayla Montgomery’s charges of lying to state health officials by collecting Harmony’s government benefits will be dropped.
As CrimeOnline previously reported, she was accused of continuing to collect welfare money meant for Harmony’s care for months after Harmony vanished.
Meanwhile, the search for Harmony continues.
Police received a call from Harmony’s biological mother, Crystal Sorey, on November 18, 2021, who reported the child was missing. Sorey told police that Alex Montgomery had physical custody of Harmony and she couldn’t get in touch with him.
Sorey reportedly lost custody of Harmony in 2018 due to drug issues. Adam, according to Sorey, blocked her calls and blocked her from social media, and didn’t allow her to speak to Harmony after Easter 2019.
New Hampshire police reached out to the New Hampshire Department of Children’s Services to locate Adam Montgomery after learning Harmony “had not been physically seen since October/November 2019.”
Adam Montgomery denied any involvement in Harmony’s disappearance and presumed death. He remains behind bars without bail on second-degree murder and additional charges.
A $94,00 reward for information on Harmony’s whereabouts is being offered. Anyone with information is asked to contact the police tipline at 603-203-6060.
