A 5-year-old Texas boy is in critical condition after an older boy gained access to a firearm and shot him Saturday afternoon.
Houston Police said officers responded to the call at about 12:30 p.m., KTRK reported.
Police said the boy’s father took him to a nearby hospital, but he was later life-flighted to Memorial Hermann with critical injuries.
The other boy, who is 8-years-old, had a cut on his head and was also taken to the hospital, where he was in stable condition, police said. It’s unclear how he got the injury.
Houston police say the two boys are family friends. No one else was injured.
Police said they’re still investigating the incident to determine what led to the shooting, and three people have been detained for questioning. No charges have been filed.
