A 23-year-old man has been arrested and charged with the murder of a 77-year-old Atlanta woman stabbed to death in her garage over the weekend.
Eleanor Bowles was found dead in the garage of her home, in a gated Buckhead community, by her son, who was arriving home for the holidays on Saturday, as CrimeOnline previously reported.
Atlanta Police say they believe Antonio Brown walked into the community, about a mile from the Georgia governor’s mansion, and tried to steal Bowles’ 2021 Lexus RS350. Investigators believe Bowles interrupted the theft and was killed, with Brown leaving in the vehicle, WSB reported. It was later recovered in DeKalb County.
Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens said at a news conference on Monday that a citizen spotted Brown after police had released images from surveillance footage and called police.
He has been booked into the Fulton County Jail, charged with murder, aggravated battery, elder abuse, possession of a knife during the commission of a felony, and hijacking a motor vehicle.
“The son came home to visit his mom for the holidays,” Deputy Chief Charles Hampton said. “This is not a way that a family should have to spend their holiday season, mourning and grieving the death of a loved one.”
Friends and family set up a GoFundMe to benefit Bowles’ favorite charities, the Atlanta Humane Society & Society For Prevention of Cruelty to Animals of Georgia.
