Police in Middle Tennessee are trying to identify a woman found dead from a shotgun wound in a northwest Nashville creek.
Nashville Metropolitan Police said a passerby discovered the body in Drake Branch Creek on Wednesday, and the Forensic Science Center confirmed she died from a gunshot the following day.
Police described her as a Black woman with short hair in her 20s. She was wearing black Adidas jogging pants with white strips, a black coat over a Father Ryan high school sweater with a black Vanderbilt sweatshirt underneath, WTVF reports.
She was also wearing a purple domestic violence awareness bracelet.
The forensic examination showed that she had surgery on her right arm and brain surgery and “appeared to have died some days ago,” police said.
Investigators say her description doesn’t match anyone who has been reported missing locally. The Medical Examiner’s Office is trying to identify her via fingerprints.
They ask anyone with information to call Nashville Crime Stoppers at 615-742-7463.
