A suspect is in custody following a shooting at Richneck Elementary School in Newport News, Virginia.
According to Newport News Public Schools, the suspect shot a teacher, who has been taken to an area hospital. Her condition is currently unknown, and it’s unclear why the shooting occurred.
“All of the students are safe,” the school system said. “The perpetrator is in police custody.”
Police said parents can pick up their children in the school gym area and that “there is no longer an active shooter.” The suspect’s identity has not yet been released.
