A Georgia man accused of murder and robbery was scheduled to appear in court on Monday, but the arraignment, for unknown reasons, has been postponed for a second time, 11 Alive News reports.
Matthew Lanz, 31, remains behind bars for the deaths of Timothy Justin Hicks and Amber Hicks, both 31, and for breaking into two homes and stabbing an officer in the neck.
As CrimeOnline previously reported, the victims were killed inside their Acworth home off Verbena Drive in November 2021. Cobb police spokesman Sgt. Wayne Delk previously said that investigators found their bodies at around 9:30 a.m. on Thursday morning.
The couple’s toddler son and the family dog remained in the home unharmed until police arrived.
“Police brings [sik] the child out holding him by his torso, runs him out, and the grandmother grabbed him, and the grandfather grabbed him, and they’re crying and freaking out saying, ‘Where’s my baby?’”neighbor Hannah Mabrey told Channel 2 Action News in 2021.
Friends said that Justin Hicks was a Cherokee County firefighter and had just become a homeowner when tragedy struck.
Lanz is accused of later breaking into a home in Sandy Springs on Friday. When an officer responded to the scene, Lanz reportedly stabbed the officer several times in the neck and back before another officer shot him. Lanz was treated for his injuries, then arrested on murder, assault, robbery, cruelty to children, and tampering with evidence charges.
