2 Children Hurt After Deadly Shooting on Baltimore Street

A man is dead and four people — including two children — injured after gunfire broke out at a busy West Baltimore intersection Saturday night.

Baltimore police said a 23-year-old woman was driving through the intersection of Pennsylvania Avenue and Laurens Street just after 6:30 p.m. when gunfire broke out, according to the Baltimore Sun. She was shot and crashed into pole. A 3-year-old boy and a 2-month-old boy were both hurt in the crash, police said.

Both suffered head trauma and lacerations; the toddler was in stable condition, and the infant was in critical but stable condition on Sunday. The woman was also said to be in stable condition, as was a 65-year-old man who was shot in the arm.

The man who died was 43. Police said one person has been detained in the incident but provided no further information.

Investigators are looking into whether the woman driving the car was targeted in the shooting or if she was caught in crossfire. They’re also trying to determine if there was more than one gunman.

Witness Tavon Johnson told the Sun that the shooting started near the Upton Metro Station.

“It happened so fast,” Johnson said Sunday.
