A missing New Jersey kindergarten teacher has been found dead and buried in a shallow grave in Kearny.
Police said Luz Hernandez, 33, was reported missing on Monday when she failed to show up for her job at BelovED Community Charter School, WNYW reports.
Investigators conducted a welfare check at her Jersey City home and launched a search, eventually located her body about nine miles away.
The cause and manner of death are awaiting results from the Regional Medical Examiner’s Office, but investigators described her death as suspicious.
Classes at Hernandez’s school were cancelled on Wednesday after the discovery of her body.
The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit is investigating, along with Jersey City and Kearny police. No arrests have been made, and it’s not known if detectives have worked up a suspect.
Hernandez was the mother of three children, HudPost reported.
