The caretaker of a 3-year-old girl who died after she was found “unresponsive in the bathtub with no water” early Friday morning has now been charged with “the violent abuse” of her own two children.
Philadelphia Police said the bruised toddler was taken to a hospital and pronounced dead about an hour after she was found, according to WCAU.
Calling the death “suspicious,” police launched an investigation and on Saturday, arrested Kiarali Rodriguez-Ayala, 23, charging her with aggravated assault, endangering the welfare of children, simple assault, reckless endangerment, and a weapons charge, KYW said. She is not related to the 3-year-old, officials said.
According to WCAU, the city’s district attorney’s office said first responders noted that Rodriguez-Ayala’s 2- and 4-year-old children were also found with obvious injuries, including bruises and burn marks.
The DA’s office said Rodriguez-Ayala was being held on a $1 million bond and has been ordered to stay away from children.
The investigation into the toddler’s death is ongoing, officials said.
