Four members of an Ohio family were found dead and fifth was critically wounded in a suspected murder-suicide in New Richmond.
The Clermont County Sheriff’s Office said its deputies arrived at the home shortly after 9:30 a.m. on Monday to serve documents in a civil case and heard gunshots. When they were unable to contact anyone inside, they called in the Sheriff’s Special Response Team to force entry into the house, WLWT reported.
Inside, deputies found five gunshot victims — four were pronounced dead on the scene and the fifth was taken to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center in critical condition.
The sheriff’s office said on Tuesday that Steve Cain, 50; Theresa Cain, 46; William Felton, 74; and Ethan Cain, 13, died at the scene. Samantha Cain, 20, was in critical but stable condition on Tuesady.
All five were related, the sheriff’s office said. Steve and Theresa Cain were married, Ethan and Samantha were their children, and William Felton was Theresa’s father.
No further details were released, but members of the locally popular band Critical Khaos said Steve Cain was their vocalist. Band members said they didn’t see anything like this coming.
“There was no indication of ever anything being wrong, no telltale signs at all,” Glenroie Smith told WCPO. “We just pray for him and his family and in the end find some peace and that’s all we are hoping for.”
New Richmond Superintendent Tracey Miller said that Ethan Cain was a middle school student who “was loved by students and staff alike.” The district made crisis response teams available for students and staff.
Samantha Cain was a recent graduate of New Richmond High School and had been attending Northern Kentucky University. Her friends set up a GoFundMe to help with her medical expenses.
