A 45-year-old Alabama man has been jailed for the murder of his mother.
According to the Marshal County Sheriff’s Office, deputies and Grant Police officers were asked to conduct a welfare check for 78-year-old Eddra Jeffries Jones earlier this week. They forced entry into Jones’ home and “immediately determined this was a homicide investigation.”
A car matching the one owned by Jones passed by the scene while the officers were investigating, and Grant Police Chief Chris Bearden tried unsuccessfully to stop the vehicle. The driver pulled over at the county line and was taken into custody.
He was identified as Jones’ son, Brian Odell Jeffries, and he has been charged with murder. He’s being held without bond at the Marshall County Jail.
No further information was immediately available, but family friends wrote on Facebook that Jeffries suffered from mental illness.
