A 4-year-old girl was shot and killed Sunday night when her 3-year-old sister found a loaded semi-automatic pistol in their apartment.

Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said that at least five adults, including the girls’ mother and stepfather, were in the apartment at the time of the shooting, according to KHOU.

The sisters were apparently unsupervised in a bedroom at the time, investigators say.

“It just seems like another tragic story of a child gaining access to a firearm and hurting someone else. This time it was a fatal shot, appears to be to her sibling,” Gonzalez said.

The sheriff’s office has not determined if anyone will face charges, but Gonzalez urged gun owners to be “a responsible gun owner.”

“It’s got to be more than just to tell the kids not to touch the weapons,” he said
