Indiana authorities say a teen may be in “extreme danger” after he went missing earlier this week and has yet to be found, WRTV reports.
On Friday night, the Indiana State Police issued a statewide Silver Alert for 14-year-old Scottie Morris, who was last seen around 8:30 p.m. Thursday in Eaton, Indiana, where he lives.
“He is believed to be in extreme danger and may require medical assistance,” the Indiana State Police said in the alert.
Cold temperatures prompted authorities to call off a search on Friday night, but hundreds of people from the community reconvened on Saturday to continue looking for Morris. Searchers included members of area fire and police departments, school employees, and fellow students, among others.
“It’s impressive how many people have come together, so quickly,” Eaton Police Chief Chris Ligget told WRTV. “In this day and age, it’s so important to see how a community can come together like this.”
Search teams appear to have been focused primarily on fields, wooded areas, and a river. Authorities were using equipment that included boats, dogs, and infrared drones. Residents have also been asked to inspect buildings and other structures.
Morris is a white male, who stands 5-foot-4 and weighs approximately 150 pounds. He has brown hair and blue eyes. At the time vanished, he was wearing a white T-shirt with writing on the front, black and red shorts, and black shoes, according to WTHR-TV.
In a Facebook post at 8:45 p.m. Saturday, the Eaton Police Department wrote that it was “breaking from searching for the night & continuing to investigate every avenue as well as tips & leads we have been given.”
The post added, “Scottie if you are reading this, please know we only want to help you and make sure you are safe!”
Eaton is located approximately 75 miles northeast of Indianapolis.
