A 23-year-old Wisconsin woman has been charged with the shooting death of a car dealership employee during a dispute that “escalated.”
Jakira Anderson was charged with first degree intentional homicide in the death of Kawsu Samba, 34, a MSI Auto Sales in Middleton on Monday, according to the Wisconsin State Journal.
According to the complaint filed in the case on Wednesday, Anderson had been in the dealership for four hours trying to get her money back on a car she had leased. She was on the phone with a 911 dispatcher when the shooting happened. The call disconnect, and she told the dispatcher who called her back that a man had put his hands on her — but did not mention that she’d shot Samba in the chest as he tried to push her out of the building.
She later told police that she pulled out the gun “to scare him back or something.”
“I wasn’t trying to kill him, just scare (him) away and I didn’t think I was going to hit him, I wasn’t even aiming or nothing,” she said, according to the complaint.
Court Commissioner Jason Hanson set bail for Anderson at $1 million.
Court documents say Anderson arrived at the dealership at 9:00 a.m. arguing with Samba over the next several hours. Surveillance video shows Samba trying to get Anderson out at about 1:30, putting his hand on her back to guide her to the door. Once at the door, she stopped and turned around, then pulled out her gun and fired. Samba runs out into the parking lot, with Anderson right behind him. When he fell to the ground, Anderson stood over him for a moment, then got in her car and left.
The dispatcher called Anderson back as she was driving away.
Anderson told investigators she bought the gun legally in September, as a “defense weapon,” but hadn’t had a chance to register it.
The hearing on Wednesday was interrupted several times by members of Samba’s family, including his wife, who spoke on the video feed, lambasting Anderson for the shooting.
