The Monterey County Sheriff’s Office in California says a large-scale search is on for a missing 7-year-old boy, whose mother was found unresponsive in the water Wednesday at Moss Landing State Beach.
ABC 8 reports that a passerby found a 3-year-old boy Wednesday at the beach, located around 18 miles north of Monterey; the child said that his mother and older brother disappeared after his mother went swimming. Crews started searching Wednesday at around 8 p.m.
Cal Fire crews found the mother, according to Fox 2. First responders attempted CPR before she was taken to a nearby hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
Her name is not yet known but the family is reportedly from the Watsonville-Salinas area.
Now, the US Coast Guard, along with the North County Fire and the Montgomery’s Sherrif’s Office, is conducting “an all-out aerial search” for the 7-year-old.
Cal Fire has reportedly deployed a drone team for assistance in the search, equipped with “thermal imaging technology,” Action News 8 reports. Meanwhile, deputies said crews are concentrating the search on the lagoon and shoreline.
