An Indiana toddler was shot and killed this week by his 5-year-old sibling, who found a loaded handgun.
Tippecanoe County Coroner Carrie Costello identified the victim as Isiah Johnson, 16-months-old, according to the Lafayette Journal & Courier.
Costello said the young boy died from a single gunshot wound, but the manner of death is delayed pending completion of the police investigation and return of toxicology reports.
Lafayette police said the boy’s sibling got hands on the weapon and fired, the newspaper said. They were called at about 3 p.m. on Tuesday.
Lt. Matt Gard said one adult was in the apartment with the two children, but someone outside the apartment made the 911 call, reporting a child was not breathing.
No arrests have been made, and police said when their investigation is complete, their report will go to the prosecutor’s office to determine if any charges will be filed.
