A California woman who was arrested last year for allegedly poisoning her husband with drain cleaner has been indicted, officials announced on Wednesday.
The victim, who is a doctor, reportedly set up a hidden camera in their home after feeling ill over the course of a month and noticing a peculiar taste in his drinks. KABC reported the victim claimed his wife, dermatologist Yue Yu, 45, tried to kill him by putting Drano in his lemonade on three instances.
“On July 11, July 18, and July 25, 2022, video captured Yue Yu pouring a substance out of a bottle of liquid drain cleaner into her husband’s tea that was left on the counter. Her husband also collected samples of the tea and turned them over to the Irvine Police Department,” the Orange County District Attorney’s Office said in a statement.
“The samples were later turned over to the FBI for testing, which confirmed the substance was consistent with liquid drain cleaner.”
Since Yu’s arrest, her husband has filed for divorce and has sought full custody of their children. The husband reportedly suffered stomach ulcers but is recovering.
Yu bailed out of jail following her arrest in August, but her arraignment is scheduled for April 18. Her attorney said she will plead not guilty, according to KCAL.
Yu is charged with poisoning and domestic battery with corporal injury. Yu’s lawyer also questioned why her estranged husband went to a divorce attorney before a medical professional. Her attorneys told KCAL that Yu is “looking forward to her day in court when the truth will finally come out.”
