Florida Babysitter Left Infant Girl in 133-Degree Car for 5 Hours: Police

A Florida woman was arrested for the death of a 10-month-old girl who was reportedly left in a hot car on Wednesday.

The mother called Baxter County police about finding her daughter blue and not breathing after picking her up. Officers who responded to the Macclenny residence found the baby lying on the seat of a golf cart before she was pronounced dead at the hospital, according to

Rhonda Jewell, 46, was reportedly watching the baby and three other children at the time. Jewell, who has been babysitting the 10-month-old since June, allegedly admitted to leaving the girl in the car for five hours while dealing with the other children.

According to WTLV, baby’s external temperature recorded 102.1 degrees and her internal temperature reached 110 degrees — but medical staff noted that 110 is the highest temperature the thermometer could read.

Meanwhile, WJAX reported that temperatures in the car reached 133 degrees.

Jewell was charged with manslaughter of a child. She was released under GPS monitoring after posting a $25,000 bond.
