A Texas man has been arrested on charges of murder and assault after he allegedly shot a woman and their two young children, killing one of the children.
Two boys, ages 8 and 11, escaped the home and were not physically harmed.
San Antonio Police said Stephen Michael Clare, 50, fled the home after the shooting and was found at his registered address about a mile away, according to KSAT.
The 28-year-old woman and the two children, ages 1 and 2, were taken a local hospital and rushed into surgery. One of the children, a girl, died, police said. That child’s name and age were not released.
“It’s heartbreaking to see a family like this destroyed,” San Antonio Police Chief Chief William McManus said. “This is infuriating.”
Police responded to the scene at about 7 p.m. on Monday and found the woman on the sidewalk outside. She had gunshot wounds to her neck and lower torso, McManus said.
According to KSAT, records show several civil cases involving the family, including a divorce petition and a paternity suit.
Clare is being held on a $500,000 bond, court records say.
