A Scottish man is behind bars after police say they found over 49 images of child abuse on a memory card hidden inside a Bible.
STV News reports that 36-year-old James McBride pleaded guilty Thursday to possessing inappropriate images of children; the victims ranged in age from two months old to 12. The images, according to prosecutor Jessica McGowan, were found on an SD card at the defendant’s home in Glasgow’s Garthamlock neighborhood.
“His home address was searched and an SD card was recovered from within pages of a Bible on the TV unit,” McGowan told the court.
“A preliminary exam of the SD card showed there were images of child sexual exploitation and abuse present…The images involve both boys and girls with ages ranging from young babies of only a few months old to children around the age of 12.
“He was asked about the SD card found in the Bible and he stated that he found the book on a bus and never opened or read it.”
An investigation reportedly began in July 2022 when police arrived at McBride’s home and arrested him concerning a different incident. Investigators later obtained a search warrant for the defendant’s home and found “49 still and moving images.”
Sentencing for McBride has been deferred, pending additional background reports. He remains behind bars.
