On Friday, Idaho prosecutors presented two emails from the jury in which Lori Vallow Daybell’s then-husband contacted Chad Daybell’s current wife about an affair Vallow Daybell and Daybell were having prior to their respective spouses’ slayings in 2019.
Daybell’s wife, Tammy Daybell, is believed to have died of asphyxiation (though her death was initially classified as natural), while Vallow Daybell’s husband, Charles Vallow, was fatally shot by her brother, Alex Cox, in Arizona in 2019. East Idaho News reported that prosecutors submitted two emails in which Vallow informed Tammy of their spouses’ infidelity.
“I apologize to be the one sending this but something has to be done. I feel it’s best to shed some light on this issue,” he wrote.
Another email to Tammy read, “Your husband and my wife are having an affair. It’s devastating, I know.”
Nathan Duncan, a detective with the Chandler, Arizona, Police Department, testified that there is no indication Tammy read this information, according to the East Idaho News.
Prosecutors have submitted evidence from Vallow’s phone. Vallow Daybell is charged in Arizona with conspiring to kill Vallow, who was her fourth husband.
On Friday, the court also saw text messages Vallow allegedly sent to Vallow Daybell about her infidelity. Vallow reportedly called her evil and said he would be taking their son, J.J. Vallow, back to Texas.
“Just so you know I have Tammy’s email address. I will send a copy of my email you sent. Tammy will know what you’re up to. You better explain,” he wrote, per East Idaho News.
Seven-year-old J.J., along with Vallow Daybell’s daughter, Tylee Ryan, 16, were reportedly found buried on Chad’s property in Rexburg, Idaho, in 2019, nine months after they vanished. Prosecutors said Ryan was dismembered and burned and her remains were located near a burn pit, while J.J. was in a plastic bag that was wrapped in plastic. His face, arms, wrists, and feet were wrapped with duct tape.
In addition to the children’s murders, Vallow Daybell is currently standing trial for Tammy’s murder. Chad is facing the same charges in a separate trial which has not started.
Vallow Daybell said she was with Melanie Gibb, David Warwick, or her husband when her son and daughter died in her brother’s apartment in Rexburg, Idaho. Vallow Daybell allegedly said she was at her residence, also in Rexburg.
Vallow Daybell claimed she was in Hawaii when Tammy Daybell was killed at her husband’s home in Salem, Idaho. Vallow Daybell stated she was with two other people at the time.
Vallow Daybell — who is believed to have been involved in a so-called doomsday cult — allegedly told a friend that her children had become zombies and the only way to exorcise their bodies of evil spirits was to kill them.
Vallow Daybell underwent psychiatric treatment twice before she was deemed fit to stand trial. She is not facing the death penalty. Cameras are not allowed in the courtroom per a court order.
