An Alabama woman is dead and her husband in custody for her murder after a 5-hour standoff on Saturday that included the couple’s four children in the home.
Fultondale Police responded to the home just after 12:30 p.m. after one of the children ran outside and told a neighbor to call 911 because of something going on between their parents. When police arrived, they found the woman at the front of the house, but two gunshots fired from within forced them to retreat, WBMA reported. Police said they believe the shots were fired by the husband.
The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office and Gardendale police responded to assist, and by 4 p.m., the four children had been released.
After more negotiations with the man inside, police fired four canisters of tear gas into the home and entered, finding the man still holding a gun. Officers used a taser on him before taking him into custody.
Inside, they found the man’s wife dead from gunshot wounds.
The children, ranging in age from 5 to 12, were taken by relatives who were on the scene.
Police have not released the names of the suspect or the victim.
