Two Massachusetts men reported missing earlier this month were found dead early Saturday in a storage unit in Boston’s Brighton neighborhood.
Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan said on Sunday that Leonid Volkov, 37, was arrested and charged with murder in the deaths of Pavel Vekshin, 28, and Kiryl Schukin, 37, a married couple from Medford who knew Volkov, WCVB reported.
Friends and coworkers reported the couple missing on April 9, but they had no been seen since March 30, Medford police said.
Ryan said that both men were stabbed to death and their bodies put into rubber storage bins. Schukin’s body was dismembered, she said, and the parts distributed among several bins.
Volkov has so far been charged with one count of murder, but Ryan expects more charges against him.
He was arrested Saturday night after investigators executed a search warrant at the U-Haul storage unit, which Volkov had rented in Schukin’s name, Ryan said. Additionally, investigators found bleach, rubber gloves, and other items traced to Volkov in the unit.
Ryan told reporters that Schukin had been a guarantor on the lease for Volkov’s apartment but had declined to continue as guarantor on the lease extension. As a result, Volkov was evicted.
The district attorney said that investigators believe that Volkov met with Schukin on March 29 in a U-Haul truck Volkov was driving. A person believed to be Volkov was seen on sruveillance video leaving the apartment building where Schukin lived. Medford police later located that truck at the Brighton storage unit where the bodies were found. According to Ryan, Volkov was using the truck to transport items from the victims’ apartment to the storage unit.
Volkov is scheduled to be arraigned on Tuesday.
