A brave Connecticut homeowner fought back against four brazen thieves attempting to steal his car in his own driveway this week, and all of it was caught on camera, NBC Connecticut reports.
The confrontation erupted during daylight shortly after 7 p.m. Monday. Footage released by the Rocky Hill Police Department shows a man running from the street to the driveway, where a four-door red Infiniti sedan is parked.
The man, who appears to be holding a cell phone to his ear, then opens the driver-side door and gets inside.
But seconds later, the homeowner can be seen bolting to the car and confronting the theft. The homeowner grabs the thief and begins fighting him. “Get out of here!” the homeowner could be heard saying in the video. “Who do you think you are?”
The thief tried to fight back but the homeowner was able to push the man away from the vehicle.
Three more men in a waiting car then rush up to the driveway and pile onto the homeowner, punching him and at one point striking him with a shoe.
When a woman yells that she is calling the police, the thieves retreat and run back to a dark-colored Mercedes, which then speeds off.
Police canvassed the area but are still searching for the suspects, who were described as four younger men, according to CT Insider.
The homeowner subsequently received medical care at a hospital; his injuries were not immediately known but they were not life threatening, according to the police department.
“Thank God that he wasn’t seriously hurt. We’re seeing a lot of these incidents throughout the state and the country that people are intervening, and the suspect may have a weapon,” Rocky Hill Police Sgt. Jeffrey Foss-Rugan said in an interview with NBC Connecticut.
