On Tuesday, Idaho prosecutors played a recorded phone call in which Lori Daybell Vallow’s surviving son confronted her after J.J. Vallow and Tylee Ryan’s bodies were reportedly found on her husband’s property in 2020.
In a phone call from August 2020, Colby Ryan reportedly told his jailed mother that her two children were murdered, buried, and she “walked away.” Vallow Daybell insisted that one day he will know the truth, according to KTVB.
Vallow Daybell allegedly told her son, “I’m not hiding, why would you think I’m hiding?”
“Probably ’cause you murdered my siblings,” he responded.
She then said, “I didn’t. I’m sorry you feel that way.”
The news outlet reported that gasps were heard in court as Vallow Daybell was heard laughing in the tense back-and-forth phone call about her children’s murders.
Later on in the call, Vallow Daybell’s son said he will be in Idaho and that she needed to “look me in my eye.”
“I pray every day, no matter how mad I am at you, no matter how bad I want to hit [Chad Daybell] in the face with a shovel, I pray for you, I pray for him,” he said near the end of the phone call.
In June 2020, J.J., and Ryan were found buried on Chad Daybell’s property in Rexburg, Idaho, in 2019. Chad is Vallow Daybell’s current husband who is facing the same charges but will stand trial at a later date.
Prosecutors said Tylee was dismembered and burned and her remains were located near a burn pit while J.J. was in a plastic bag that was wrapped in plastic. His face, arms, wrists, and feet were wrapped with duct tape.
In addition to Tylee and J.J.’s murders, Vallow Daybell and Chad are charged with killing Chad’s wife Tammy in 2019. In Arizona, Vallow Daybell is charged in connection with the shooting death of her fourth husband, Charles Vallow, in Arizona in 2019.
Vallow Daybell’s brother, Alex Cox, fatally shot Charles. Cox died of natural causes later that year.
Vallow Daybell said she was with Melanie Gibb, David Warwick, or her husband when her son and daughter died in her brother’s apartment in Rexburg, Idaho. Vallow Daybell allegedly said she was at her residence, also in Rexburg.
Vallow Daybell claimed she was in Hawaii when Tammy Daybell was killed at her husband’s home in Salem, Idaho. Vallow Daybell stated she was with two other people at the time.
Vallow Daybell — who is believed to have been involved in a so-called doomsday cult — allegedly told a friend that her children had become zombies and the only way to exorcise their bodies of evil spirits was to kill them.
Vallow Daybell underwent psychiatric treatment twice before she was deemed fit to stand trial. She is not facing the death penalty. Cameras are not allowed in the courtroom per a court order.
