12-Year-Old Girl Shot in Head, Killed in Crossfire of Drive-By Shooting

A 12-year-old Connecticut girl who was reportedly left in critical condition following a drive-by shooting on Thursday has died.

WVIT reported that Secret Pierce was shot in the head and abdomen in a car parked in Hartford. Hartford police said an 18-year-old man is in critical condition with life-threatening injuries.

After receiving a ShotSpotter alert, cops arrived at the scene and found Pierce wounded in the parked vehicle. The man was located nearby on the sidewalk.

Two other people, a 16-year-old boy, and a 23-year-old man, took themselves to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, WVIT reported.

Authorities said they believed the three males were the intended target, not Pierce. WVIT reported that surveillance footage showed a car driving up and shooting at the three males. Officials have not yet provided a description of that vehicle.

According to the Hartford Courant, police Lieutenant Aaron Boisvert said it is unclear whether anyone shot back at the vehicle used in the drive-by or if any of its occupants were wounded.
