The father of slain Colorado boy, Gannon Stauch, broke down in tears Monday afternoon following ex-wife Letecia Stauch’s murder conviction for killing his only son.
Al Stauch requested that the defendant have his last name taken away from her, citing his frustration in hearing her addressed as “Ms. Stauch.” He then asked the judge to sentence her to a day of isolation for every mile she transported Gannon’s body from Colorado to Florida, a distance exceeding a thousand miles.
4th Judicial District Judge Gregory Werner ultimately sentenced Letecia to life without the possibility of parole. In addition to first-degree murder, she was found guilty of tampering with physical evidence and tampering with a human body.
Tears fell from Al’s face as he apologized to Gannon and said he never thought his only son was in danger when he left him in the defendant’s care.
“Gannon, I never in my wildest dreams would have thought you would have been in danger, buddy, or I would not have left you at home with what turned out to be a murderer,” he said. “I’m so sorry.”
As CrimeOnline previously reported, it took the jury took around seven hours and 30 minutes to return Monday’s verdict, after failing to reach a decision last week.
The defendant pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity but prosecutors detailed her actions throughout the 3-week trial, with evidence that she stabbed, shot, and beat Gannon inside the family’s El Paso County home on January 27, 2020, then took great measures to cover her crimes.
Months later, his body was found stuffed into a suitcase beneath a bridge in Pace, Florida.
Al then turned his statement toward the defendant, who he referred to as a once-beautiful and smart woman and not the “‘nappy-headed murderous narcissistic…arrogant liar” in the courtroom today.
“Although she remains too much a coward to state the facts of what she did to Gannon, too much of a lily-livered, self-centered pathological liar to ask for forgiveness, and too much the facade of someone who actually cares for others….she will one day give an account through her words or through her time.”
