Bryan Kohberger, the primary suspect in the University of Idaho murders, has added a notable lawyer to his legal team.
According to Fox News Digital, Elisa Massoth, a defense lawyer based in Payette and an alumna of the same school as the four victims, filed a notice of appearance with the Second Judicial District Court on Tuesday.
Massoth is certified to handle cases involving the death penalty. She also worked on a case featured on “America’s Most Wanted” that resulted in the defendant receiving four consecutive life sentences.
As CrimeOnline previously reported, Kohberger is behind bars for the murders of Madison Mogen, Kaylee Goncalves, Xana Kernodle, and Ethan Chapin. All four students were found stabbed dead in their off-campus rental near the school in November 2022.
“She is an excellent, highly respected criminal defense attorney,” Boise-based criminal defense lawyer Edwina Elcox told Fox News Digital. “I have the utmost confidence in her ability to provide Bryan Kohberger an outstanding defense.”
Massoth’s addition to Kohberger’s legal teams comes in the wake of Latah County Prosecutor Bill Thompson’s decision to bring in additional support from the Idaho Attorney General’s Office, including two distinguished Boise assistant attorney generals: Jeff Nye and Ingrid Batey.
Kohberger remains behind bars without bail. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for June 26 at 9 a.m. in Moscow, at the Latah County Courthouse.
