A 12-year-old Texas boy and a 20-year-old are facing murder charges for the killing of a Sonic restaurant employee Saturday night.
According to Keene police, the shooting happened at around 9:40 p.m. at a Sonic in Keene. Angel Gomez, 20, arrived at the restaurant with a group of others and engaged in disruptive behavior. Gomez reportedly urinated in the parking lot, prompting 32-year-old employee Matthew Davis to confront the group.
When Davis approached Gomez, an altercation took place, Keene Police Chief James Kidd said. The altercation escalated and a 12-year-old in Gomez’s vehicle retrieved an assault rifle and discharged six shots at Davis, according to Kidd.
Davis sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was airlifted to a nearby hospital, but succumbed to his injuries, NBC DFW reports.
After the incident, Gomez and the 12-year-old fled the scene, but Gomez later came back and was apprehended and taken into custody. Police located the 12-year-old in Rio Vista and arrested him.
Police said that 12-year-old’s identity has not been revealed, due to his age.
Meanwhile, his friends and colleagues created a GoFundMe page to help Davis’ family with expenses. The page says that Matthew Davis had a 10-year-old son and a wife identified as Leigh Anne Davis.
“We can only imagine her grief and heartbreak,” the page read.
