Elkton Police in Maryland announced Monday that they’ve recovered the body of 3-year-old Mykell Richardson, who was reported missing from the Elk Landing Community.
ABC 2 reports that police found Mykell in Little Elk Creek a little over 24 hours after he was reported missing from his grandmother’s home in Elkton.
“Our agency wishes to extend our deepest condolences to the family during this difficult time. As this investigation continues into the next phase we would like to thank the following agencies who provided resources and assistance over the past 24 hours,” police wrote in a Facebook post.
Mykell’s grandmother, Natrice Blackmon, reportedly said she’s unsure how Mykell got to the water but she doesn’t think he wandered there alone.
“I need justice for my grandson. I don’t think that he was just missing. I think that something else happened. he’s three years old, he was autistic, and now he is deceased on Mother’s Day; I’m crushed,” she said.
The family added that Mykell was non-verbal, autistic, and loved being near water, CBS News reports.
Police said they will not rule out anything in the case until the investigation is complete.
