An Indiana toddler got his hands on a loaded handgun Thursday night and pulled the trigger, shooting his mother and a friend.
Neither received life-threatening injuries, but police, called when 21-year-old Jalynn Artis and 23-year-old Trayshaun Smith showed up at Franciscan Health Lafayette East with gunshot wounds, soon learned that Smith had a warrant out for his arrest in Illinois for murder.
Although they provided no information, Lafayette Police said they determined that Artis’s 3-year-old child had accessed the gun and shot the victims, WISH reported.
Police also didn’t say who the gun belonged to, how the child had access to it, or if charges will be filed related to the shooting.
Smith will be extradited to Illinois on the murder charge.
